REVIEW TASK GROUP: HOT NEWS 2
I know you have all been waiting for the next edition of HOT NEWS from the Task group with bated breath 😂. I am currently negotiating the sale of the story to NETFLIX entitled THE story of A SPORTS CLUB AND ITS WASHROOMS (note the US wording for WC to increase its sale value!)
I want to begin my briefing by thanking the review Task Group (JG, Paul, Fran, Stuart, Peter H and super-sub Chris) for their generally helpful and very useful contributions! The club members owe this a group a great deal, as we try to make sense of the streamlining project.
Thus far, we have almost agreed a new management committee structure based on the best of the BSA and the BCC together, with some innovative thinking. We have developed a summary of roles and their related activities and responsibilities and are now working on a draft Constitution to take to a SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING in due course. Once approved by the members we can submit it to HMRC AND RETAIN OUR CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) status with it’s tax advantages.
We are phasing our work so that the new management structure and Constitution and team can be approved by members, before we focus on strategy. We can then begin to develop a realistic strategic plan with a key focus on membership and lawns.
Currently, both the BSA and the BCC are very active and hard working, keeping all aspects of the club operating; we should note the commitment of all our volunteers as we seek to retain the core values and activities of the club.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to chat about progress on the project, then please don’t hesitate to chat with me.
Best wishes,
MALCOLM

REVIEW TASK GROUP HOT NEWS NO:1
As you will know if you attended the AGM, I have been tasked to Chair a review group to consider streamlining the current governance arrangements and to develop a strategic direction for the club in the years to come. After only about 2.5 years in the club, this is a huge privilege and I will do my best to meet the challenges ahead with respect for the history and culture of the club and most of all, the needs of its overall membership.
The review group was established at the AGM and we have arranged our first tranche of meetings. These will be taking place on the 21st April, the 5th May and the 26th May. Thus, if you have any views, perhaps you could let me or any members of the review group know (myself, Peter Hill, Stuart Smith, John Guy, Fran Wall or Paul Felton). I will also be ensuring that members of the current two Committees (BSA/ BCC) are kept informed of progress via their respective secretaries, Paula Armstrong and Hazel Felton.
As a first step we will be considering both constitutions, clarifying who is responsible for what and its relevance to the current and future potential situations. We hope to consider a strategy to ensure the continued success of the club both as a beautiful venue for croquet at recreational and competitive levels but very importantly, as a community of warm friendship and support for members to enjoy.
I intend to keep an open mind, listen, learn and communicate with members during the review process and I would be very happy to hear from, or meet with, anyone who wishes to communicate with me, bend my ear or express their views in passionate manner! Please don’t hesitate to contact me either for a coffee or a chat as I will be attending many roll ups over the coming months whilst the review is taking pLace.
Look out for HOT NEWS no 2 in due course !
Very best wishes,
Malcolm Armstrong
