NOW We Know The Season Is Coming…

If you were in any doubt about the Broadwas croquet season’s imminence, today’s news should dispel any niggling uncertainties you might have.

For club coach Jeff Faulkner is  announcing that the first series of the club’s 2026 GC blocks competition will be running  from 20th April to 31st May.

Organised by Jeff, the popular season-long blocks competition attracts a large number of entrants every season and this year, members of all abilities will doubtless be joining in the fun once again.  In 2025, nearly half of the club’s playing membership took part in the competition, providing members with the opportunity to improve their handicaps on home soil.

Anyone wishing to enter the first block series should email Jeff by 13th April.

If you are unfamiliar with the rules of the level-play blocks competition, please find them below.

GOLF CROQUET LEVEL PLAY BLOCKS

         COMPETITION RULES

Each match is the best of 3 untimed games and only 2 games are to be played if one player wins the first 2 games. All games are played under level-play rules.

If the last game is unfinished when the lawn booking ends the score at that point will be the final score. If the scores are level at this point play one extra hoop to break the deadlock.

THE WINNER OF THE MATCH MUST EMAIL THE RESULT INCLUDING THE SCORE IN EACH GAME TO ME ON THE DAY OF THE MATCH.

Please complete your handicap card immediately after the match and ensure you agree the entries on your card with your opponent.

If you believe your handicap has changed as a result of a match please check with either John Guy or myself c BEFORE YOU PLAY YOUR NEXT MATCH.

The scoring system for the blocks is:

Win           4 points

Lose 2 – 1         2 points

Lose 2 – 0         1 point

If a match is not played by the closing date for the round it will be void. If it can be clearly demonstrated that despite the best efforts of one player to arrange it by offering at least three dates their opponent has not been accommodating, then the Tournament Manager may award the match to the disadvantaged player 7 – 4, 7 – 4. IN THIS SITUATION THE MATCH MUST NOT BE RECORDED ON YOUR HANDICAP CARD AND WILL NOT COUNT IN DETERMINING THE WINNER OF THE OVERALL COMPETITION.

If a player is more than 15 minutes late for a match without the agreement of their opponent then their opponent may claim the match as above.

At the closing date for each round the two players with the most points in each block will move up a block and the two players with the least points in each block will move down a block, although this may not always be possible. If two players or more have the same number of points in the block the results of the block will be decided by the results of the match or matches between them and then net hoop difference.

If a player is unable to play in a particular round then they can rejoin when they wish and they will re – enter in a block commensurate with their handicap index.

After the last month of the competition the winners will be:

OVERALL CHAMPION  – the player with the highest number of net games won. If there is a tie, the champion will be decided by the better net hoop difference.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER – the player who has the biggest increasein their handicap index. If two or more players are tied then the deciding factors will be net games won followed by net hoop difference.

The current block positions and overall competition leaders will be posted  in the clubhouse after each round.
