Club News Roundup

In the early morning mist, Jon begins the task of scarifying, on lawns three and four.

LAWN PREPARATION

It’s the first day of spring, so what better time to bring the uplifting news that work is well in progress in preparing the club lawns in readiness for the new croquet season.

After three hours of work, the sun shone and the grounds began to look more like croquet lawns.

The past few days of dry weather enabled  Jon Carrington and Fran Wall to carry out the first cut of the lawns on Thursday, followed by scarifying (removing excess thatch -dead grass, moss, and debris) from all five lawns.

At the end of the morning’s work.

Jon is hoping to clear the lawns of debris left  after scarifying over this weekend in readiness for white-lining at the start of next week, ahead of the application of weed treatment by an outside contractor in the next few days. Mowing team members should be informed soon about the date for the first ‘close-cut’ of the season.

NEW CARPET

The new carpet installed in the clubhouse over the winter.

New carpet tiles were laid on the floor of the clubhouse over the winter following repairs to the floor carried out by Fran Wall and Jon Carrington. The carpeting was organised by club president John Steel. The carpet looks really good, so folks, let’s all make full use of the doormat eh??

LAST WINTER BREAKFAST OF THE SEASON

Thirteen members attended the last breakfast of the winter.

Members enjoyed the last close season breakfast of the winter at The Bell, Lower Broadheath, on March 10th.

Organised by club president John Steel, the popular monthly get-togethers have enabled members to catch up with each other over the wet winter months as well as enjoy sumptuous full English breakfasts provided by hosts Lyndsey and Ian Davies.

Many thanks to John for organising the popular and much-welcomed monthly meetings.

AND A VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER

And finally, please don’t forget that the annual general meetings of both the Broadwas Croquet Club and Broadwas Sports Association are to be held at Broadwas Village Hall on Tuesday (24th March) from 10.00am.

Both AGM’s will be addressing an extremely important motion regarding the development and future structure of the Croquet Club and Sports Association and the input and support of ALL members would be invaluable. Many thanks.
