‘If You Start Making A Shepherd’s Pie, You Can’t Change It To A Mousse!’

(We Learned A LOT At This Year’s Club Coaching Seminar)

The Broadwas Coaching Team created a fun broth of fun and hot croquet tips at Tuesday’s seminar.

The club’s coaching team presented its second annual GC coaching seminar on Tuesday.

Based on a TV Classics theme, the fun, but highly instructive seminar attracted an audience of 30 players, which included four guests from Worcester Norton Croquet Club.

There was an impressive attendance at Broadwas Village Hall.

Led by Jeff Faulkner the seminar included presentations by Jeff and David Kaner on GC tactics and preparation as well croquet tips and a quiz on classic TV programmes created and presented by club captain John Guy.

Jeff ponders on a question from the audience.

The seminar followed the successful 2025 seminar which was also held at Broadwas Village Hall in February last year.

The coaches covered a wide range of topics on tactics which proved useful as we approach the new season and included how to prepare psychologically for important games and tournaments as well as ensuring health is not compromised during lengthy competitions played during hot weather.

David Kaner looked the part as he disappointed attendees with his pronouncement on shepherds pie and mousse.

Jeff also touched on the club’s initiative to increase membership numbers this year.

Quizmaster John Guy announces the TV quiz winners.

The day’s quiz was won by ‘The Rolling Bowlers’ team which included Phil Apperley, Patrick Linturn, Bob Oliver, Pauline Watson, Catherine Lane and her son Martin, who once played with one of the club’s founders, Hugh Popplewell.  Their prize was free entry to this season’s Ryland Trophy tournament.

Location Location Location? Hopefully at the other side of the hoop?

Many thanks to Jeff, John and David for all their work in preparing the seminar and to Jackie Guy, Jean Faulkner and all the volunteers who helped set up the village hall for the day.
