Match report by captain Stuart Smith.

At last, we got to play at home in beautiful weather after two away defeats at Kington Langley and Garway.  With the lawns running fast, the sun on our backs and a good start in the games we really motored – winning all three morning matches.

David Kaner won 26-2, Ian Lambert 21-9 and Ian Dampney & Stuart Smith 26-5 in the doubles. That meant 73 hoops to Cheltenham’s 16 hoops.

Cheltenham’s captain had a rethink over lunch and decided to switch lawns with his players, some of whom had not seen the Broadwas lawns before. Would it work?

Well, they certainly improved their games but Broadwas continued to pile on the pressure. Stuart beat Klim Seabright 26-15 to secure the match win, Nigel Knee did defeat Ian Dampney 12-8 in a low scoring affair but David beat Ken Wallman (soon to be 90 I understand) 22-16 and Ian Lambert ran out a 22-8 winner against Pat Francis. A 6-1 win was very welcome with an enormous 151-67 hoop difference.

It was noticeable that we have rabbit droppings on lawns 2 and 3 so we left some carrots for our furry friends on lawn 3 strategically enclosed in a wire box. If you find any furry friends who have “stayed on after supper” please release them right down at the bottom of the lawns on the other side of the fence and let’s hope that they go somewhere else.

Then reset the trap with the carrots at the back, beyond the floor trigger. Please send Paul a photo of your capture.
